One of the important safety features of the above hoists is the “Sky Lock”, a dynamic safety device that senses rope speed as it passes through the mechanism. If the hoist exceeds the factory pre-set speed of 25m/min. for the device, the “Sky Lock” will automatically trip and lock onto the secondary safety wire rope and support the load. By activating the manual trip mechanism, it is possible for any sub-assembly of the hoists to be removed safely, while the platform is suspended from the “Sky Lock”.

The Tirfor is a patented hand operated pulling and lifting machine with an unlimited rope travel. It is a climbing machine and operates by moving up or down the rope, which passes through it.

It works by pulling directly on the rope, the torque being applied by means of two pairs of self-energising smooth jaws which exert a grip in proportion to the load being lifted or pulled. Powerful springs provide the initial pressure necessary to make the jaws grip the rope and give the self-energising action. The two levers actuating the jaws provide upwards or downwards motion depending upon which is used.
